“One T-Shirt, a New Story – A T-Shirt Upcycling Workshop Using the Shibori Technique”
Led by Associate Professor DIANA BOTA –
PhD – Faculty of Design, Aurel Vlaicu University of Arad
The minimum age to participate at this workshop is 14 years old.
The workshop aims to promote the creative reuse of clothing by transforming worn-out or plain T-shirts into unique pieces using the Japanese resist-dyeing technique known as Shibori. Participants will explore different methods of folding, binding, and dyeing textile materials, while also gaining an understanding of the principles of the circular economy, responsible consumption, and sustainable design.
Through hands-on activities, participants will experiment with the visual effects created by the technique and discover how clothing items can be restored and repurposed instead of being discarded, thereby reducing their environmental impact.
At the end of the workshop, each participant will have a restored and personalized T-shirt created using the Shibori technique, will understand the key steps involved in the process, and will recognize the importance of creative textile reuse as an alternative to excessive consumption.
Children aged 14 and above, teenagers, and adults interested in creative activities, textile design, recycling, and environmental protection. (15–20 participants)
